Rockflow builds towards climate-adaptive cities using ingenious solutions made from fully circular stone wool.

Stone wool solutions for urban climate adaptation

Our changing climate is creating significant challenges in the urban environment, including:

1. More frequent, more intense rainfall events
2. Longer periods of extreme drought
3. Heat stress as a result of rising temperatures

In the urban built environment, where impermeable surfaces are extensive and increasing in area, climate change is creating major challenges for local authorities and those with water management duties. During increasingly frequent and intense downpours, the volume of surface water being accumulated exceeds the capacity of surface water and combined sewer systems. Ponding and pluvial flooding results, and damage to houses, other properties and critical infrastructure follows. We are also having to deal more frequent water shortages and higher, drying temperatures between rainfall events.

Rockflow’s stone wool elements offer sustainable solutions for capture, retention and infiltration of rainwater. This helps prevent local flooding above ground as well as contributing to restoring the natural water balance under the ground.

Absorption capacity
0

Stone wool has an absorption capacity up to 95%. Virtually the entire volume is available for water storage.

Installation depth
0

A depth of only 40m is sufficient for installing Rockflow

Attenuation capacity
0

Within 24 hours, Rockflow’s attenuation capacity becomes available again for dealing with the next downpour.
